To make these paintings I start with a sheet of glass, water and Sumi ink.
Neither of these elements contains or holds any visible form. The first two
are transparent and the third is totally opaque. But when the water and ink
are mixed together in different densities and pushed around the surface of the
glass with different tools, a whole universe of form comes into being.
The verb to be can only be properly used in reference to life as a whole. Only
life IS. Everything
else is merely an abstraction concocted by a mind permanently trapped in the
collective fantasy of its separate existence. Life is formless and not essentially
determined by the past. You are invited to see the human form in the image above
(what you think you are)
and to then go beyond it to the emptiness
and timelessness from which it came.
