Focusing on perceiving how the mind is conditioned reveals that, although some of this programming is useful –even essential in some particular ways—there is nothing in the human psyche but conditioned limitation. Perception of this fact implies that there is no action not informed by this limitation. There is no future action undertaken from within this conditioning (or, more precisely, by it) that will ever clear or transcend the crucial fact that the human mind is programmed by its general and its particular (personal and cultural) experience, and that this programming has the effect of separating human beings along the lines of egotistical and tribal fear and ambition. And this perception of the “wall to wall” conditioning of the brain and its nefarious consequences eliminates, not only all action presumed sufficient to eradicate or merely reform this situation but, with it, the very existence of a presumably independent entity—the “me”—capable of undertaking this action.

Traditionally the self has acted out of limited experience/knowledge projecting the future from its limited particular past. Now, having understood the impossibility of acting from this past to project a significantly better psychological future, the whole structure and movement of the psyche, collapses. Except in practical, technical matters in which thought is required to know, interpret and react, now every moment stands on its own without any interior sign of mental continuity. Memory is no longer the judge, as well as the standard of judgment; nor are will and desire operating as the engines of self projection. There is a unitary field of experience free of all traces of the psychological time within which the object/subject duality existed and prolonged itself.
